Five years ago, I joined Bald Ridge Lodge, and I had no idea how much I would love this work and how much I would love seeing the changed lives of the young men we have served, young men who've faced more challenges before age 18 than most of us will see in a lifetime.
Every day, I watch young men who've experienced trauma, homelessness, and instability slowly rebuild their lives. I've seen a young man who couldn't complete a homework assignment become a high school graduate. I've watched guys who arrived with broken trust learn to build healthy relationships. I've celebrated first jobs, first apartments, first cars, and moments of genuine adolescent joy.
The statistics for young people growing up in foster care are frightening. But our boys aren’t statistics. They are real young men who, with the right support, are rewriting their futures.
