A Journey of Purpose: Supporting Young Men Through Their Transition to Adulthood

As the Program Director for Bald Ridge Lodge, I’ve had the privilege of supporting young men on one of the most transformative and critical journeys of their lives—the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Over the last decade, I’ve watched these young men grow, struggle, and ultimately thrive. Their stories are ones of perseverance, hope, and resilience—and they are the heart of our organization’s mission.

Since joining in October 2013, I’ve served in various roles—from Youth Care Specialist to Case Manager, and now as Program Director. But no matter my title, my passion has always been the same: to ensure these young men have a safe, stable, and nurturing environment in which to thrive. It’s an environment where they can heal from past trauma, build life skills, and, most importantly, find hope for the future.

Many of these young men come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse, and neglect. For them, our group home is more than just a roof over their heads—it is a place of healing, growth, and a foundation for a future full of opportunity. It’s a safe space where they learn the skills they need to succeed, not just during their time with us, but throughout their lives as they transition from foster care into adulthood.

At Bald Ridge Lodge, our mission extends far beyond providing basic needs. We nurture these young men by offering the support, guidance, and structure they need to form healthy relationships, make responsible decisions, and become independent, self-sufficient adults. It’s our job to equip them with life skills, job training, and emotional resilience. But none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community—caregivers, mentors, and donors who believe in the potential of every young person.

This year, as we celebrate our Day of Giving, I’m reminded of how critical the funding from our community is. Your generous contributions ensure we can continue to offer job training, life skills development, counseling, and educational support. These programs are vital to these young men’s successful transition into adulthood, and your gift helps us expand these services. The funding also allows us to sustain our Independent Living Program and Community-Based Services, so that even after they leave our group home, they never truly leave the support network we’ve worked so hard to build.

The impact of your donation goes beyond providing a meal or a bed—it provides hope, stability, and a chance for a brighter future. Your support allows us to be the guiding light in their journey toward independence and success.
